Famous the world over for its Leaning Tower, Pisa is well worth taking the time to visit, either upon arrival or departure from Italy or as an excursion in its own right. Climb the tower’s 294 steps for wonderful views of the city, divided in two by the River Arno, with sixteenth century palaces along its banks and directly surrounding the tower, some of Italy’s most major monuments – the eleventh century duomo (cathedral) became the model of Romanesque architecture.
