Situated in the heart of Tuscany, La Foce is a must for all those who delight in nature, literature, the arts, and history. The property lies on the crete (clay) hills overlooking the glorious Val D'Orcia. The Villa was built in the late 15th century as a hostel for traveling pilgrims and merchants. In 1924 it was bought by Antonio and Iris Origo, who dedicated their lives to bringing progress and social change to a poverty-ridden land. Today the estate is run by the Origo daughters, Benedetta and Donata. The garden, designed by the English architect Cecil Pinsent, is considered an ideal combination between landscape and architecture, blending Italian and English traditions and taste and conceived to enhance the Renaissance house and take full advantage of the spectacular valley views over to Monte Amiata.
Opening hours: the garden is open to the public every Wednesday afternoon. Guided tours leave from the Fattoria courtyard every hour from 3 to 7pm (April-September) and 3 to 5pm (October-March).
