Cenno Downstairs

Description

The main house (Downstairs), on the lower two levels, has two double bedrooms and one small single room and two bathrooms. There is a farm kitchen with open fire grill, a dining room that seats ten and a sitting room with an open fireplace. It has central heating, a washing machine and a dishwasher. It has its own terrace and garden.

The terraces are part-shaded and ideal for those perfect Italian meals and there is nothing more relaxing than having a glass of wine and a dish of olives while watching the sun go down behind Montegiovi.

Set slightly apart from the house is a barn – The Studio, which is split level and can act as an additional double bedroom to either section of the house. It’s a great spot to admire the view. However, there is no bathroom, therefore, if it is used, the ground floor bathroom in the main house is just across the bottom terrace. The Limonia, with barbecue fireplace, makes an additional dining area.

Downstairs Rooms

The St. Francis room

This room is named after Saint Francis of Assisi, it’s on the upper level of the downstairs off the living room. It has two twin beds that can be made into a double and looks out past the cypress tree across the valley to the village of Montelaterone and is characterised by the large flag hanging on the wall.

The Zebra room

This room was named after black and white strips outlining the beams that were originally on the ceiling, a bit like the cathedral in Siena. There are twin beds and a door out into the garden. This was the original end of the house and the inscription above the door frame was modified to 1842 to make it seem more modern!

The dining, kitchen, living and bath rooms

In the original Tuscan farm, the downstairs was where the farm animals lived. Over the years the animal troughs have been removed, the floors dug deeper to create a dining room, kitchen and bathroom.

There is a more formal dining room for large parties with a grandfather clock in attendance, although in the summer the outside terrace is lovely for al fresco.

For those coming in the winter, there is an open fire in the kitchen.

The terrace, garden

The outside terraces are wonderful places to eat lunch or dinner at sunset under the pergola. If it’s too hot, a table can be set up under the grape vine between the house and the studio.

The garden is a wonder of flowers between the irises, the rose garden and the formal garden as it stretches into the woods and farm.
